This is a woman who has embraced her power as a woman. So when she stands on the corner with Seamus and explains to him that hookers don’t do passion, one feels the wisdom that she carries- the shrewdness of a woman who knows her own sexual power but the limits of her emotional capabilities.

Archtypal in nature, the role might have been merely stereotypically cornie, but Tilly handles it well (as did her predecessor Dunaway) and manages to produce scenes that might have been tawdry with typical American pornlike. Tilly’s role is really a revamping of the character Faye Dunaway played in “Scorchers”, the hooker with a heart of gold. In his “capable hands” she had already enjoyed a juicy part in Beaird’s movie ‘Scorchers’ as a young woman fighting (literally) for her man, so when the call came, she was ready and willing to book her ticket on the Conch Tour Train. Having already established herself as a brown-haired busty bombshell, she was probably assured her share of Industry success when friend and former acting coach, David Beaird called her about a role she couldn’t resist.

playing a hooker may have seemed like type casting but her sensuality was used to the fullest and she also got to do what few Hollywood actresses can say they’ve ever done: ACT! Jennifer Tilly had the role of the lifetime in Key West. It somehow manages to live on in the hearts and minds of it's fans even after 25 years! And I hope to provide more links in the future to other writings on Key West.

Thrashing about to try and compete with the “Big Three” (CBS, ABC, & NBC) the Little-Network-that-Could aired a show that probably would not have been given the time of day on any of them.Created and produced by Allan Marcil, Dick Berg, and David Beaird, the show was intelligent, funny, and filled with literary allusion (*gasp* “what’s that?” you say “Literary what?”). Twenty years ago,a lightly publicized show was aired on newby network Fox.
